Keep the full image or select a crop by dragging or entering coordinates. With aspect ratio locked, width and height change together.

Choose a format and click Create image. Changing an option clears the previous result.
Draw a photo with characters.
Open an image, select a crop and choose the ASCII art tab. More columns give finer detail. Adjust brightness, contrast and inversion, then create ASCII and copy it or download TXT.
Changing settings clears the previous result; convert again to update it. This creates text art, not OCR that reads words in the source image.
About ASCII art
Which images work best?
Simple backgrounds, clear shapes and strong light-dark differences work well. Crop busy images and adjust contrast. Transparency is blended onto white; inversion reverses those areas too.
Why does the picture look different after copying?
Characters are usually taller than they are wide, so rows are corrected with an approximately 0.5 cell-width/height ratio. Preserve line breaks and spaces and use a monospace font when pasting. Different fonts or line spacing can change the shape; TXT does not store colors or fonts.
Can I convert large or very tall images?
Input limits are shared with the image editor. ASCII is limited to 500 rows and 60,000 cells; reduce columns or use a wider crop if necessary. GIF/SVG/HEIC, colored ASCII and image export of ASCII are not supported. Files and results are not uploaded or autosaved.
Turn a landscape photo into a profile picture
1200 × 800 → Square 800 × 800 → 400 × 400Choose Square and enter an output width of 400. With aspect ratio locked, the height becomes 400 too.
Frequently asked questions
What about transparency and animation?
PNG and WebP preserve transparency; JPG fills transparent areas with white. Animated PNG and WebP save only the first frame. GIF, SVG, and HEIC are unsupported.
Are quality and metadata preserved?
Enlarging an image cannot restore missing detail. JPG and WebP are recompressed, and original metadata such as EXIF is not copied. Colors may vary with browser color handling.
What if a large image will not open?
Input is limited to 20 MiB and 40 million pixels. Output is limited to 8,192px per side and 16 million pixels total. Your browser or device may need smaller images. Use crop size may reduce dimensions to fit these limits.
